A brutal late-night assault claimed the life of a 43-year-old commuter in Haryana's Karnal district on Saturday. The incident took place around 11 pm on Munak Road near a power station close to Badauta village. Unidentified assailants intercepted the victim and launched an aggressive assault with sharp-edged weapons, triggering intense panic across the locality. Upon reaching the scene, law enforcement officers identified the deceased as Vinod Kumar, a resident of Barchpur village who suffered multiple fatal puncture wounds to his torso and neck.
Ambushed During the Late Evening Commute
Details shared by the victim's cousin, Sanjay Sharma, revealed that Vinod worked as a commercial driver at Singla Motor in Karnal. Following his usual routine, he had wrapped up his day's shift on Saturday night and was riding home toward Barchpur on his motorcycle. While travelling along the rural stretch of Munak Road, assailants struck near the electrical power house adjacent to Badauta. Family members stated that the attackers delivered four to five deliberate strikes, leaving severe injury marks across his neck, abdomen, waist, and other parts of his body.
Motorcycle Found Intact While Mobile Phone Goes Missing
Initial inspection of the crime scene brought forth contrasting clues that have drawn the attention of investigators. While Vinod's two-wheeler was found parked or abandoned right at the spot untouched, his handheld cellular phone was nowhere to be found. The missing handset has emerged as a critical element in tracing the final moments before the attack. Authorities are actively working to determine whether the motive was an attempted robbery gone wrong, personal enmity, or an unforeseen altercation on the road, as no clear motive has been established yet.
