Indian National Lok Dal leader Abhay Chautala confronted a local market committee official during an on-ground inspection of paddy procurement arrangements at the grain market in Karnal. Accompanied by party supporters, the leader directly questioned the administrative readiness and oversight of the ongoing crop purchase, expressing sharp displeasure when the official could not furnish immediate details on the status of harvested produce lying in the yard.
Dispute Over Crop Purchase Verification
Abhay Chautala has been conducting rounds across various grain markets to assess whether paddy procurement is proceeding smoothly for local growers. During his visit to the Karnal market, he stopped near a heap of paddy and asked the market secretary whether the lot had been officially procured. Rather than providing an immediate confirmation, the secretary stated that he would have to examine the official records before answering.
The official further explained that 3 designated agencies are responsible for executing the procurement operations across the facility. Chautala then questioned whether the secretary personally accompanies the procurement teams during active purchasing sessions. In response, the market secretary stated that auction recorders from the department are assigned to be present during the bidding and purchase routines.
Confrontation Over Administrative Presence
Dissatisfied with the administrative delegation, Abhay Chautala strongly criticized the official's desk-bound routine, arguing that senior supervisors ought to be personally inspecting ground operations instead of remaining confined to indoor setups. Taking a sharp swipe at the official's conduct, Chautala stated that he considers himself a big officer who sits comfortably in an office or at home, adding, ‘चौटाला साहब का राज होता तो यहां मुर्गा बना फिरता’ (had it been the governance of Chautala Senior, he would have been made to crouch like a chicken in punishment).
The remark triggered laughter among the assembled political workers, even as the market secretary maintained that he remains stationed at his office. The inspection concluded with Chautala cautioning the administration regarding future compliance, followed by enthusiastic slogans raised by party workers supporting their leader.
