A glaring case of administrative apathy and poor infrastructure execution has come to light in Sonipat, Haryana, where a newly laid road began disintegrating just 48 hours after its completion. The affected stretch connects the village of Badwasani to the Kilohard IIIT. According to local residents, the contractors skipped essential groundwork protocols, completely bypassing proper soil compaction and laying the paving materials directly over loose mud and dirt, causing the surface to peel off rapidly.
Appalled by the premature deterioration of the pathway, angry villagers gathered at the site and forcefully halted the construction activities. Residents argued that established engineering standards were brazenly violated, with paving layers dumped haphazardly without a firm foundation. As discontent mounted, Congress district councillor Sanjay Badwasiya arrived at the location to support the protestors and strongly object to the shoddy workmanship.
Severe Questions Raised Over Official Oversight
During the site inspection, the district councillor sharply criticized the working methods of the public works department officials and the handling contractor. He pointed out that no responsible department official was present at the location to supervise or verify the construction quality before work commenced. The councillor demanded that the substandard road be completely dismantled, the underlying soil properly cleaned and treated, and the reconstruction be carried out strictly according to prescribed official norms. Both the villagers and the local representative made it clear that sub-par construction will not be tolerated under any circumstances, pressing for strict action against all officials and employees found culpable.
PWD Department Assures Inquiry and Action
In response to the mounting protests and controversy, the public works department has stepped in to address the complaints. PWD SDO Rakesh stated that official grievances regarding the road construction have been registered and a formal inquiry is underway. He noted that the contractor had initiated the work in his absence. The department official assured that wherever improper construction or inferior materials were utilized, that specific section would be completely torn down and rebuilt in strict compliance with required engineering standards.
