A shocking incident occurred in Chandigarh's Sector-22 on Friday morning when a serving Chandigarh Police head constable, Nitin, was found dead with severe gunshot wounds inside his residence. The discovery triggered panic across the neighborhood and prompted an immediate response from senior police officials and investigative units, who rushed to secure the scene.
Fatal Gunshots Inside the Room and Service Weapon Link
Nitin had been posted in the accounts branch at the police headquarters and lived in a room in Sector-22. On Friday morning, his body was found lying motionless with bullet injuries inside the room, leading to an urgent distress call to the police. Preliminary findings indicate that Nitin sustained three bullet wounds, and the fatal injuries were inflicted by bullets fired from his own service revolver.
Son Detained Following Allegations of Murder
Suspicion in the killing immediately fell upon Nitin's son, who stands accused of shooting his father. Law enforcement personnel acted swiftly upon reaching the location and took the son into custody for interrogation. It has also emerged that the suspect's mother is an active member of the police force, serving as a head constable as well.
Senior Officers and Forensic Investigators Secure the Scene
Following the report of the fatal shooting, Senior Superintendent of Police Kanwardeep Kaur arrived at the residence to supervise the ongoing probe. Senior Superintendent of Police Kaur noted that distinct gunshot marks were clearly visible on Nitin's head. At the time of the occurrence, three family members were present inside the home, namely Nitin, his wife, and their son. A specialized forensic team was called to examine the crime scene and lift physical evidence.
