A shocking incident of apathy has come to light at a hospital in Kurukshetra, Haryana, mirroring previous heart-wrenching cases of familial abandonment seen in Sonipat. In this latest episode, a woman walked away from the hospital after her brother passed away, leaving his body behind and telling caretakers to handle the final rites themselves because she had no time to stay.
The event unfolded at the LNJP Hospital in Kurukshetra, where 71-year-old Jugal Kishore succumbed to an illness. Upon being notified of his death, his younger sister Pushpa arrived at the facility. However, after briefly viewing her brother's remains on the hospital bed, she told the director of an orphanage that she could not stay and lacked the time for funeral proceedings, asking them to perform the final rites as a favor before departing with a relative.
Originally a resident of Uttam Nagar in Delhi, Jugal Kishore had been living at the Saraswati Tirth in Pehowa for approximately 10 years. He was unmarried, and Pushpa was his sole surviving close relative, whom he visited frequently. With no other family members traceable, his situation grew dire when his health failed two weeks prior to his passing.
Baba Farid, the director of an orphanage, had intervened when Jugal fell ill, bringing him to the shelter and getting him treated. He was initially admitted to the Pehowa government hospital for several days. Although attempts were made to contact his sister during this period, helpers eventually had to transfer him to the LNJP Hospital in Kurukshetra when initial communication efforts stalled.
On September 4, Jugal Kishore passed away while receiving treatment. Informed of the tragedy, Pushpa made her way to the Kurukshetra hospital. When asked about conducting the last rites, she flatly refused, citing a lack of time. Conversing with the orphanage workers, she acknowledged that they would have to handle everything, expressing that she had no spare time and would have only stayed if she were in better health. She then left the hospital premises alongside her relative.
Following the abandonment, Baba Nishan Singh and the orphanage committee stepped forward to perform Jugal Kishore's final rites. The immersion of his ashes was also carried out by the ashram members in the Saraswati River. Expressing deep sorrow, Baba Nishan noted how painful it was to witness such a breakdown in a sibling relationship.
