FIR Filed Against Ex-BJP MLA Son Anchit Thakur in Solan Over Alleged Rs 100 Crore Mining Scam

Police have registered a case against the son of a former BJP MLA in Nalagarh, Himachal Pradesh, over allegations tied to an illegal mining scam worth Rs 100 crore.

Law enforcement authorities in Himachal Pradesh have registered a formal police case against the son of a former Bharatiya Janata Party legislator in connection with an alleged illegal mining and material supply controversy in the Solan district. The developments center around Nalagarh, where allegations of irregularities totaling Rs 100 crore have surfaced and triggered considerable political turmoil across the region. The matter first came to light when the sitting legislator Bawa Hardeep Singh raised serious concerns during a press briefing at the Nalagarh PWD Rest House, specifically targeting Thakur Stone Crusher, a business linked to former MLA Krishan Lal Thakur and his son Anchit Thakur.

Allegations and Document Discrepancies

According to the local legislator, the matter was brought directly to the attention of the state chief minister, prompting an official administrative inquiry that ultimately led to the registration of a First Information Report at the Nalagarh police station against Anchit Thakur. The controversy deepened when local political figure and Right to Information activist Mohan Sharma stated that he had obtained official documents regarding materials utilized in the construction of six local bridges through formal information requests.

The RTI activist claimed that upon cross-checking roughly 2,516 transit forms associated with these projects, an estimated 2,418 forms lacked any corresponding entries in online governmental databases. These missing digital records have raised profound questions regarding the legal validity of the paperwork, while simultaneously fueling concerns that the state exchequer may have suffered substantial financial losses as a result.

Legal Proceedings and Demands for Probe

Following the formal registration of the police case, the accused individual has reportedly sought legal protection by filing an application for anticipatory bail. The sitting legislator has publicly demanded a comprehensive and thorough investigation to determine the exact quantity of materials deployed in the construction sites, the original source of those supplies, and whether appropriate royalty payments were duly cleared in accordance with established rules.

Furthermore, Mohan Sharma asserted that when potential financial penalties under strict mining laws and environmental regulations are factored in alongside other liabilities, the total estimated amount could easily exceed Rs 100 crore. However, authorities and legal experts note that final confirmation regarding the legitimacy of the transit forms, potential fines, and other related accusations will only be established following the conclusion of formal investigations and court proceedings.

Response from the Former Lawmaker

Addressing the allegations through a public statement on social media, former MLA KL Thakur dismissed the accusations as a manifestation of political frustration. He argued that amid growing public support for his party, the press conference hosted by the current legislator and his associates reflected sheer panic and desperation rather than genuine concern. He emphasized a steadfast belief in his family's ability to present their side effectively and defended his son against what he termed deliberate attempts to soil their reputation.

The former legislator stressed that repeating unsubstantiated claims in press briefings does not transform them into truth, noting that facts and judicial processes ultimately determine matters of integrity. He expressed full confidence in the judicial system, affirming that the police case and associated allegations would be contested vigorously on legal grounds with concrete evidence. Additionally, he warned that appropriate legal action, including defamation proceedings, could be pursued if false or misleading statements continued to cause damage to their standing.

Concluding his remarks, the former leader maintained that his camp would not be intimidated or distracted by political posturing, urging all supporters and area residents to remain focused on upcoming public engagements rather than getting distracted by controversies. He reiterated that a significant scheduled event on the 30th remains the primary focus for his organization moving forward.

A hundred crore mining scam, the probe will bring everything to light.

Seeing this whole mess with the Nalagarh crusher reminds me of my Himachal trip when I actually spotted several such illegal stone crushers operating quietly in the mountains. Back then it all seemed like small local issues, but with a hundred-crore scam finally surfacing, it's clear how deep these roots really go.

Ravi, the game of these crushers in the mountains is very old. Unless power changes hands, files never translate into ground action.

Seeing this crusher case in Nalagarh reminded me of my old reporting days, standing outside police stations while files and political supporters piled up.

Karan, among those bundles of papers outside the police station, those 2,418 fake forms with no online trace must have been there too!
