Discovering Quilling Art During the Pandemic
Recalling her journey, Neha shared that she first encountered quilling art in 2020 at the age of 13 during the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. Confined to her home, she turned to YouTube to learn the intricate techniques of paper quilling and began experimenting with various designs. Her very first creation was a beautiful artwork of Lord Ganesha, which received immense praise from her relatives, friends, and acquaintances. This initial appreciation acted as a major morale booster, inspiring her to explore a wide array of intricate designs and patterns.
Expanding From Deities to Cartoon Characters
Today, Neha crafts a diverse range of artistic pieces using quilling, including depictions of Lord Ganesha, Lord Jagannath, and several popular cartoon characters. As her artworks gained popularity among buyers, she initially expanded her reach by listing her products on the e-commerce platform Amazon. According to Neha, she generated a business of approximately 200,000 rupees within a year, but due to certain technical challenges, she had to discontinue sales on that platform. Undeterred, she redirected her focus and now successfully sells her custom designs nationwide exclusively through Instagram.
Affordable Pricing Ranging From 300 to 1000 Rupees
At present, Neha ships her handicraft items across India through her social media presence. Her collection features diverse designs priced anywhere between 300 rupees and 1000 rupees. Among her offerings, items featuring dolls and cartoon characters stand out as particularly attractive to buyers. Additionally, she crafts beautiful sunflower earrings made entirely of paper for women. The standout feature of these earrings is that, being crafted from paper, they are remarkably lightweight and entirely eco-friendly.
Balancing Academics With Steady Monthly Orders
Despite her young age, Neha manages to seamlessly balance her formal education with her entrepreneurial responsibilities. She continues to receive a steady stream of orders for her quilling art, currently fulfilling around 100 orders every month. Among all her creations, artwork related to Lord Ganesha and Lord Jagannath remains in the highest demand among her clientele.
Setting Up Local Stalls in Bokaro
In addition to her robust online sales, Neha ensures her products are accessible to local buyers in Bokaro. She sets up her physical stall in front of a prominent local mall on Wednesday, Thursday, and during the evenings on Saturday and Sunday. This allows local customers to personally inspect, experience, and purchase her wide range of handmade handicraft items directly.
