A perplexing death investigation in Kota took a dramatic turn after medical examinations uncovered a brutal homicide behind what initially seemed to be an accidental drowning. The body of a 25-year-old woman was retrieved from a waterlogged vacant plot located in the Crusher Basti area under the jurisdiction of the Anantpura police station. While initial visual observations suggested the woman might have drowned, a comprehensive post-mortem examination conducted by a medical board decisively established that she was strangled to death before her body was discarded into the water to mislead investigators and conceal critical evidence.
Autopsy Confirms Fractured Neck Bone
The forensic autopsy revealed that the woman sustained a broken neck bone, a fatal injury that directly points to violent physical throttling. When law enforcement personnel first reached the scene following alerts from local residents, the body was floating facedown in the murky water. Recognizing the suspicious surroundings, the Anantpura police cordoned off the perimeter and launched a meticulous field inquiry covering a radius of 200 to 500 meters around Crusher Basti. Through sustained questioning of area residents and thorough neighborhood canvassing, officers eventually verified the victim's identity.
Victim Identified as Odisha Native Who Lost Husband Recently
Subsequent verification revealed that the deceased woman was named Nisha, originally hailing from the state of Odisha. She had previously been married into a family residing in the Kanwas area of the Kota Rural district. However, her husband passed away roughly three months ago, leaving her without immediate support. Following her husband's demise, Nisha relocated to Crusher Basti to rebuild her livelihood through daily wage labor. During her stay in the settlement, she had been cohabiting with a young man.
Live-In Partner Disappears as Primary Suspect
Following the discovery of the crime, the young man with whom Nisha had been residing vanished under mysterious circumstances. Investigators now consider this absconding partner the primary suspect in the brutal killing. Taking note of the severity of the offense, police contacted Nisha's parents in Odisha and requested their presence in Kota. Upon their arrival, the parents formally confirmed her identity at the mortuary. Armed with formal statements from the family and initial investigative leads, authorities have intensified efforts to locate and apprehend the missing suspect.
Police Form Specialized Units to Trace Absconding Suspect
Providing details on the ongoing investigation, Kota City Additional SP Subhash Chandra Mishra stated that the autopsy report has officially confirmed death by strangulation. He noted that while the prime suspect remains at large, multiple dedicated police units have been formed to conduct targeted raids across his possible hideouts. Law enforcement officials emphasized that only the suspect's arrest would shed light on the exact sequence of events and clarify the motive behind the killing. Concurrently, Anantpura police officers are combing adjacent localities and questioning neighbors and acquaintances to piece together the events leading to the homicide.
