Live: Six dead, 11 pulled from rubble as Satya Niketan building collapse rescue ops continue

Delhi Police took at least 15 Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members into custody on Sunday after they allegedly forced their way through the entrance of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) headquarters while holding an evening demonstration. The protesters were demanding the MCD Commissioner's resignation over a five-storey boys' hostel building that caved in at Satya Niketan, a tragedy that had already cost four lives. A police statement said that between 150 and 200 ABVP members had converged near the Civic Centre to voice outrage over the building collapse.

The death toll from the five-storey building collapse in South West Delhi's Satya Niketan has climbed to six, with a total of 11 people having been brought out alive from the debris, Delhi Police said in its Monday (September 7, 2026) update. One more individual was recovered from the rubble during overnight rescue efforts, but the person had already died, pushing the fatality count to six, the police said. The police added that work to identify and locate those allegedly responsible for the incident is still ongoing.
