An unexpected turn of events unfolded in the Sagar district of Madhya Pradesh when a police operation intended to track down illegal firearms led to the discovery of a massive cash hoard. Law enforcement officers searching a local residential property uncovered large bags filled with currency notes amounting to approximately Rs 3 crore. The seizure occurred at the residence of an auto driver's family, catching both local authorities and neighboring residents completely by surprise as a routine arms raid suddenly transformed into a high-stakes financial investigation.
Social Media Tip Triggers Sunday Morning Raid
The raid was executed early on Sunday morning by a team from the Gopalganj police station following a direct alert regarding a suspicious image posted on social media platforms. The photograph depicted a local youth posing prominently with a gun, prompting police personnel to quickly organize a search operation at the residence of Saurabh Ahirwar, whose father is Rajesh Ahirwar. Armed with instructions to locate and confiscate the firearm displayed online, the raiding party thoroughly searched every room of the property. However, instead of finding pistols, rifles, or illegal ammunition, officers stumbled upon multiple heavy bags stuffed with bundles of currency notes across various denominations.
Five Hours of Machine Counting with Revenue Officials
Realizing the immense scale of the currency recovery, the searching officers recognized that manual counting would be inaccurate and excessively time-consuming. They immediately arranged for automated currency counting machines to process the cash directly on site. Additionally, senior police leadership alerted officials from the local Revenue Department, requesting their presence to officially supervise the counting and record-keeping process. The joint recovery operation and machine counting process lasted for nearly five hours continuously. At the conclusion of the count, officials confirmed that the seized currency totaled around Rs 3 crore. Due to the unexplained nature and magnitude of such a cash stash, law enforcement formally notified the Income Tax Department to initiate a parallel tax investigation.
Interrogation Points to Bhopal Engineer and Ongoing Probe
Following the seizure, law enforcement personnel questioned the family members present inside the residence regarding the origin of the funds. Family members asserted during questioning that the cash did not belong to their household, explaining instead that it was stored there by a close relative who works as a government engineer stationed in Bhopal. To verify whether this account is accurate or merely an attempt to shield the occupants, police officers are actively interrogating Saurabh Ahirwar and Ankit Ahirwar. Investigators are now conducting a thorough inquiry into all financial documents, checking bank accounts, and attempting to trace the complete chain of transactions to determine why such a substantial sum of unrecorded money was kept inside a residential dwelling in Sagar. Meanwhile, news of the multi-crore recovery spread rapidly throughout the area, leaving local residents in utter shock.
