Madhya Pradesh is set to show two very different faces of the weather once again. The forecast issued for the 24 hours starting the morning of 25 June 2026 paints a split picture: in some places dark clouds will roar and lightning will crack, while in others the blazing sun will leave people drenched in sweat. Across several parts of the state, strong winds and dusty storms have prompted weather authorities to issue alerts at different levels. One side of the state feels the searing heat of peak summer, while the other senses the first arrival of the monsoon season.
At the centre of this churn right now is Sehore district. Conditions here are expected to deteriorate the most, which is why the IMD has placed Sehore under an orange alert. Sehore and its surrounding areas could see thunderstorms with intense lightning at isolated spots, along with stormy winds blowing at 50 to 60 kilometres per hour.
Yellow Alert for 42 Districts, with Light to Moderate Rain Likely
The weather department has placed 42 districts under a yellow alert, where light to moderate rain is possible. These include Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Rajgarh, Narmadapuram, Betul, Harda, Burhanpur, Khandwa, Khargone, Barwani, Alirajpur, Jhabua, Dhar, Indore, Ratlam, Ujjain, Dewas, Shajapur, Agar, Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Datia, Satna, Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori, Katni, Jabalpur, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Seoni, Mandla, Balaghat, Panna, Damoh, Sagar, Chhatarpur, Maihar and Pandhurna.
Which Districts Stay Dry and Where the Heatwave Hits
Not everywhere will get the relief of rain. A handful of districts such as Bhind, Morena, Sheopur, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Rewa and Singrauli are expected to remain dry for now. Meanwhile, Sidhi district in the Vindhya region is reeling under intense heat, where the weather department has flagged the possibility of a heatwave. In other words, while one part of the state tries to dodge rain and storms, the other will be battling the heat.
Precautions Against Lightning and Storms
Given the danger of lightning strikes and strong winds, a few key precautions matter.
- During lightning, avoid open fields and high spots.
- Stay away from temporary structures, tin sheds and weak constructions.
- Farmers should postpone harvesting and storage work until the weather settles, and keep clear of low-lying and waterlogged areas.
- Avoid going near rivers and streams.
Special Advisories for Yellow Alert Districts
People in the districts under a yellow alert have been advised to take extra care.
- Stay inside a safe building during thunder and lightning.
- Keep away from open grounds, trees and electric poles.
- Keep a constant watch on the latest weather warnings.
- In heatwave areas, drink plenty of water through the day and stay hydrated.
- Avoid stepping out during the hottest hours, between 12 noon and 3 pm.
- Always carry water while travelling.
When Will the Monsoon Reach Madhya Pradesh
For now the monsoon is moving slowly, but it is expected to pick up pace in the final days of June and gradually cover the entire state. It is likely to arrive in Madhya Pradesh within the next three to four days. With that, most parts of the state can hope for some relief from the heat in the days ahead.
