Infrastructure development in the holy city of Ujjain has gathered momentum ahead of the massive Simhastha 2028 religious congregation. To facilitate the smooth movement of millions of expected devotees, civic authorities have initiated extensive road widening projects across critical routes. As part of this drive in the Abdalpura area, the ancestral residence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav and the property of his sister have come within the designated expansion zone.
Details of the Demolition and Structures Affected
Under the urban expansion plan, a 2.90-meter portion of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav's ancestral home is being dismantled to clear the required road width. Additionally, a 3.8-meter section belonging to the house of Kalawati Yadav, who serves as the Chairperson of the Ujjain Municipal Corporation and is the Chief Minister's sister, is also being brought down in the same neighborhood. Opposite the Chief Minister's residence, a section spanning more than 20 feet of the Mankameshwar Mahadev Temple will also be removed for the road expansion.
Historical and Political Roots of the Ancestral Property
The house in Abdalpura holds substantial personal and historical value for the family. The structure was originally built in 1974 by the Chief Minister's grandfather, Ramchandra Yadav. Mohan Yadav spent his formative childhood years in this house and launched his political career from these premises, having been elected as a college president while residing there.
Road Widening Stretch from Khajoor Wali Masjid to Ganesh Chowk
The municipal engineering work covers the stretch running from Khajoor Wali Masjid to Ganesh Chowk, an artery that will bear significant pedestrian and vehicular traffic during Simhastha 2028. Approximately 270 houses in Mohan Yadav's neighborhood fall within the purview of this widening initiative. Local residents have supported the drive, acknowledging that infrastructure expansion is essential for the city's progress and the forthcoming gathering.
