A motorcycle suddenly spun out of control on a flyover, and a roadside CCTV camera captured a life being cut short in an instant. The accident took place in Maharashtra's Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where a 21-year-old man died in a road crash while heading home after bidding farewell to his aunt at her funeral.
How the accident unfolded
The crash happened late at night on the city's Town Hall flyover. The young man was riding his motorcycle home when he suddenly lost control of the bike and fell straight onto the road. The entire incident was captured on a nearby CCTV camera, clearly showing the bike skidding out of control. Bystanders rushed the injured man to hospital, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police identified him as Mohammed Zeeshan Mohammed Ali, 21, a resident of Khokadpura near Paithan Gate.
A family shattered by grief
Zeeshan was the only son in his family. Just hours earlier, he had gone to attend his aunt's funeral, and it was on the way back from those last rites that he lost his life. The family lost two members within a single day, plunging relatives and neighbours into mourning. Residents said the news left the entire neighbourhood in stunned silence.
Another deadly crash near Gondia the same day, 6 killed
The string of accidents in Maharashtra did not end there. The same day, a devastating road accident occurred in Gondia district, killing 6 people and injuring 7 others. The crash happened late on Monday night on the state highway connecting Gondia and Balaghat, a route that links Maharashtra with Madhya Pradesh. A Bolero jeep carrying labourers was approaching from the opposite direction when a speeding, out-of-control truck rammed straight into it. The impact was so severe that the Bolero was completely destroyed, killing all 6 occupants on the spot, including a 3-year-old child. The crash was so violent that some bodies got trapped in the wreckage and had to be cut free using gas cutters. Police registered a case against the truck driver based on the statement of Rajendra Shivcharan Pandhare, an injured survivor from Piplagaon Khurd in Kiranapur, Balaghat district.
Back-to-back crashes raise fresh road safety concerns
In both the Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Gondia accidents, loss of vehicle control is being cited as the initial cause. The two crashes, reported from different parts of Maharashtra within the same day, have once again raised questions about road safety in the state. High speed, poor night-time visibility and drivers losing control of their vehicles are commonly cited as the factors behind such accidents.
