The Agarwal family in Pune, still reeling from Ketan Agarwal's death, has been hit by another devastating loss. Ketan's grandfather, Devichand Agarwal, has passed away. He breathed his last at 9.45 pm on Saturday. Devichand Agarwal was 71 years old and had been undergoing treatment in the ICU of a Pune hospital for the past two days.
Grandfather could not cope with the shock of grandson's death
Family members say Devichand Agarwal suffered a severe mental shock after learning of his grandson's murder. He was deeply grieved by the loss and the incident had shaken him to the core. According to the family, he kept dwelling on the tragedy constantly and was consumed by worry over what lay ahead for the family. One thing that reportedly troubled him repeatedly was the decision to fix Ketan's marriage with Siya Goyal, something he deeply regretted.
He joined the candle march demanding justice for Ketan
On June 27, a candlelight march was held in Pune demanding justice for Ketan. Devichand Agarwal himself took part in that march. Speaking to the media at the time, he did not hold back his grief and said, "Our own people betrayed us. People we had known for years." His words reflected just how personal and painful this tragedy was for him.
Ketan died on June 18 after falling at Lohagad Fort
On June 18, 26 year old Ketan Agarwal died after falling from Lohagad Fort in Pune, a spot popular among tourists and trekkers for its beauty. At the time of the incident, Ketan had gone there with his fiancee Siya Goyal, and during the visit he fell into a ravine. It was initially treated as an unfortunate accident, but a few days later police arrested Siya Goyal and her 22 year old friend Chetan. Police allege the two pushed Ketan off a height together, killing him. The investigation also revealed that Siya and Chetan were allegedly in a romantic relationship. Both accused currently remain in police custody.
Engaged in February, the wedding was planned for this year
The case has remained in the headlines continuously since last week. According to the families, Ketan and Siya got engaged in February and were set to marry later this year. The family said the wedding venue had already been booked and preparations were in full swing. With Ketan's death followed now by his grandfather's passing, the entire Agarwal family has been plunged into deep grief.
