A tragic accident occurred in Nagpur, Maharashtra, on Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a 74-year-old man during his routine morning walk. The incident took place at approximately 5:30 am along Japanese Garden Road in the Civil Lines area. The victim suffered severe head injuries when a speeding SUV struck him, and he was pronounced dead after being rushed to a government hospital.
Allegations of illegal racing among multiple vehicles
According to eyewitness accounts provided to law enforcement, three cars were speeding and aggressively competing with each other along the stretch just before the collision occurred. During this dangerous driving, one of the SUVs mowed down the elderly pedestrian. Inspector Saran Mirashi of the Gittikhadan police station stated that authorities have taken SUV driver Tushar Kakade into custody, alongside two occupants who were traveling with him, Yash Shinde and Himanshu Raut. A case has been registered against the driver under charges related to culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
Investigation into intoxication and vehicle occupancy
Investigators are actively examining whether the individuals inside the SUV were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. Preliminary findings indicate that three people were inside the vehicle, but police are verifying whether additional passengers were present. Notably, one of the occupants inside the SUV also sustained injuries during the collision.
