Mumbai: A bizarre protocol lapse unfolded during a government function in Thane district when a track from a private album by Lata Mangeshkar was played instead of the official Vande Mataram. Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde was present at the gathering when the incident occurred. Although the lyrics of the played song were also based on Vande Mataram, it belonged to an old private album rather than the designated original rendition. Due to this mix-up, the entire assembly stood in absolute silence for nearly four minutes, and the expressions on the faces of leaders on stage clearly showed they realized the error.
Private Album Song Played By Mistake
The sequence of events began when Deputy CM Eknath Shinde arrived on the stage and the official proceedings commenced with an announcement for the recitation of Vande Mataram according to standard norms. Everyone present in the auditorium stood up as a mark of respect. However, instead of the original national song, a track from a veteran singer's album began playing over the sound system. Even though the words were similar, the arrangement belonged to a separate commercial album, creating an awkward moment for the dignitaries gathered.
Four-Minute Silence And Shinde\'s Apology
The song played continuously for four minutes, and the entire audience remained quietly standing throughout its duration. Once the track concluded and Eknath Shinde stepped up to deliver his address, he openly acknowledged the mistake and issued an apology. He strictly warned the authorities and responsible individuals involved to ensure that such lapses are never repeated in the future. Shinde noted that absolute caution and vigilance must be maintained during national anthems and patriotic events, especially at a time when political debates surrounding Vande Mataram are already intensifying across the country.
