Security arrangements intensified across Mumbai as police took Mahatma Gandhi's great-grandson Tushar Gandhi and Bollywood actor Imran Khan into custody ahead of a scheduled gathering at August Kranti Maidan. Actor Imran Khan, nephew of Bollywood actor Aamir Khan, had arrived at the historic venue to participate in the demonstration. Law enforcement personnel deployed heavily across the perimeter to pre-emptively disperse assembly participants and maintain public order throughout the area.
Road Barricades and Pre-Emptive Detentions Across Perimeter
Authorities placed extensive barricading along all entry points leading toward August Kranti Maidan, shutting down general vehicular and pedestrian access to the venue. Security personnel maintained a strict vigil across surrounding corridors to prevent demonstrators from congregating on the grounds. As participants arrived in small groups or individually to join the assembly, police units intercepted and detained them directly from the access routes, placing them inside transport vehicles to prevent any street confrontation.
Tushar Gandhi Moved to DN Nagar Police Station
Tushar Gandhi, scheduled to spearhead the protest, was picked up by the police early in the morning and transferred to the DN Nagar police station. Upon learning of his custody, Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders Aaditya Thackeray and Sanjay Raut arrived at the DN Nagar police station premises in solidarity. The visiting political leaders voiced sharp objection against the detention, asserting that they would remain stationed inside the police facility until authorities formally released Tushar Gandhi from custody.
Demonstration Organised Under 'Hum Bharat Ke Log' Banner
The demonstration was planned for 3:30 pm under the collective banner of 'Hum Bharat Ke Log'. The Mumbai gathering was structured as a solidarity event backing the ongoing protest at Jantar Mantar in the national capital. However, heavy police deployments sealed the surrounding grounds long before the scheduled afternoon gathering, taking both key organizers and arriving participants into custody before proceedings could get underway.
