A sharp rally in the bullion market paused on September 21 as precious metal prices experienced downward correction across domestic trading counters. The recent softening in gold prices has been primarily triggered by reduced buying activity among retail consumers and domestic investors, who paused fresh purchases following earlier cost spikes. Just last week, 24-carat gold had surged by 30,000 per 100 grams. With prices undergoing a slight pullback, current market rates stand at Rs 23,170 per 10 grams below the historical record highs recorded in January 2026, offering potential entry levels for prospective buyers.
Domestic Futures Contracts Trend Lower on MCX
Trading sentiment on the Multi Commodity Exchange reflected this weakness across active contracts for both gold and silver. Gold futures scheduled for maturity on October 5 declined by 0.70 percent to trade at Rs 1,53,296. Silver futures set to expire on December 4, 2026, also retreated, shedding 0.79 percent to stand at Rs 2,39,555 during trade on September 21. The synchronized downtick across both exchange contracts underscores the caution among market participants as short-term profit booking outweighed immediate physical demand.
Technical Projections Outlined in ICICI Commodity Analysis
According to projections detailed in the ICICI Commodity Report, MCX Gold October futures maintain an upside target toward Rs 156,500 so long as prices sustain comfortably above the key Rs 152,000 benchmark. The assessment notes that a definitive move above Rs 156,500 could open doors for an advance toward Rs 158,000. In the case of silver, the December contract is projected to test resistance between Rs 245,000 and Rs 246,000 provided it remains anchored above the Rs 238,000 support baseline. These levels represent crucial technical markers for active commodity traders tracking short-term volatility.
Regional Retail Trends Across Major Southern Cities
Physical trading presented a varied pattern across southern Indian commercial hubs. While physical silver rates held firm in Chennai and Hyderabad, the market in Bangalore registered a significant price reduction of Rs 5,000 per kilogram. Following this adjustment, retail silver in Bangalore settled at Rs 2,50,000 per kilogram, bringing the rate for 100 grams down to Rs 25,000. The divergence between Bangalore and its neighboring metropolitan centers highlights regional variations in local inventory flows and consumer purchasing appetite.
Global Spot Metal Prices Reflect Similar Decline
International benchmark prices also mirrored the softness recorded across Indian exchanges. Data from Trading Economics indicated that spot gold was exchanging hands at $4353.40 per ounce, marking a decrease of 0.69 percent. Concurrently, spot silver slipped by 0.36 percent to trade at $65.9 per ounce. The broad-based retreat across foreign spot desks provided minimal external support, reinforcing the corrective tone observed across domestic derivative and physical markets.
