Precious metals experienced a firm upward trend on July 27, with retail gold prices climbing higher across major southern cities including Bangalore and Chennai. The rise in physical market rates reflects broader strength in commodity derivatives, driven by evolving geopolitical conditions in the Middle East and solid technical support levels on domestic exchanges.
Retail Gold Rates in Bangalore and Southern Hubs
In Bangalore's spot market, the price of 100 grams of 24-carat gold reached Rs. 14,58,900. Meanwhile, 22-carat gold in the same quantity was priced at Rs. 13,37,000. Similar strength was witnessed across key commercial centers in southern India, including Chennai, where rates for 24K, 22K, and 18K gold remained elevated.
Trading Activity on the Multi Commodity Exchange
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, both gold and silver traded with significant gains. The MCX Gold August 5th futures contract advanced by Rs. 922 or 0.64 percent, reaching Rs. 1,44,028 per 10 grams. Silver contracts exhibited even stronger momentum, with MCX Silver September 4th futures jumping by Rs. 2,065 or 0.93 percent to reach Rs. 2,24,021 per kg.
Geopolitical Backdrop and Supply Chain Impact
Market observations indicate that the United States suspended its nearly two-week military campaign against Iran late Friday without a formal statement. Tehran concurrently announced the conclusion of its retaliatory strikes and engaged in diplomatic discussions with Oman concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Gold had faced volatility in preceding weeks amid heightened Middle Eastern hostilities, as supply channel concerns extended from the Strait of Hormuz to the Red Sea.
Technical Outlook and Price Targets
According to the ICICI Direct Bullion Outlook, MCX Gold August futures are projected to rise toward the Rs. 145,000 level as long as prices sustain above the critical support of Rs. 141,500. For silver, the outlook suggests that MCX September futures could rally toward Rs. 226,000 to Rs. 228,000, provided the contract stays above its key threshold of Rs. 222,000.
