Stranded Indian travelers and Umrah pilgrims navigating widespread flight cancellations across Saudi Arabia can now access round the clock diplomatic assistance directly from the holy city of Mecca. Responding to the operational chaos at regional airports, the Consulate General of India in Jeddah has operationalized a dedicated emergency facilitation unit to provide immediate on the ground guidance and logistical relief.
New Operational Cell and Dedicated Hotline in Mecca
The newly established relief unit operates out of the Indian Haj Pilgrims Office (IHPO) situated within Mecca. Distressed passengers requiring consular backing or logistical coordination can reach officials via a dedicated mobile helpline at +966 553646966. To facilitate direct in-person visits, diplomatic authorities have pinned the exact geographic location of the facility on digital navigation maps.
This arrangement complements rather than replaces existing infrastructure. Consular authorities confirmed that the primary 24-hour command center in Jeddah remains fully operational. Stranded travelers are encouraged to contact either station depending on their proximity. Official alerts detailing the support framework were shared on X to ensure maximum outreach among travelers.
Review of Past Season and Rollout for Haj 2027
Parallel to the ongoing emergency measures, broader pilgrimage logistics continue to progress in New Delhi. Union Minister of Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju recently chaired a comprehensive review evaluation examining the operational execution of Haj 2026. The evaluation noted that approximately 1.75 lakh Indian pilgrims successfully fulfilled their pilgrimage obligations in Saudi Arabia during the 2026 cycle.
Looking ahead, the Ministry of Minority Affairs has formally notified the regulatory framework governing the Haj 2027 pilgrimage cycle. Intending travelers can submit their applications online through the Haj Committee of India web portal or the specialized Haj Suvidha mobile application. Meanwhile, heightened security precautions had previously been enforced across Mecca and several adjacent regions following the issuance of alerts through the kingdom's National Early Warning system.
