Lila Devi, a skilled local artisan, shared that her entire family actively supports and contributes to this traditional venture. They specifically focus on producing eco-friendly Ganesha sculptures. According to Lila Devi, she previously operated from different locations, but for the past two decades, she has been based at this specific spot near Center Park to create these festive idols.
The creations coming out of Lila Devi's workshop are highly popular among buyers due to their aesthetic appeal and vibrant color combinations. This popularity naturally draws customers to her workshop every year as the festival approaches. Explaining the materials used in the process, she stated that they utilize POP and Khadiya clay to construct these figures. This material composition ensures that the idols do not harm the environment during immersion, offering a safe option for devotees.
Supplying Idols Across Uttar Pradesh and Neighboring States
The stellar reputation of Agra's sculptors has crossed regional boundaries to establish a presence in multiple Indian states. Lila Devi highlighted that her finished Ganesha idols are in high demand across several prominent districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow, Aligarh, Kanpur, Etawah, and Mainpuri. Beyond state borders, they routinely secure orders from commercial centers like Surat in Gujarat, Mumbai in Maharashtra, and various parts of Rajasthan, with customers booking their preferred pieces well in advance.
With the festival just around the corner, production speeds have reached their peak. Catering to diverse customer preferences and event scales, the workshop produces Ganesha idols ranging in height from one foot to seven feet. Lila Devi clarified that the pricing is determined by the overall size and the complexity of the design. The cost of these attractive Ganesha idols starts at Rs 2,000 and goes up to Rs 8,000, with the family working tirelessly to complete all pending orders on schedule.
