Border checkpoints leading into the national capital have seen a sharp escalation in vehicle inspections as authorities move to control seasonal pollution levels. With the Winter Action Plan coming into effect on November 1 alongside existing Graded Response Action Plan measures, entry regulations for incoming vehicles have been significantly tightened. Vehicles arriving from neighboring urban centers that fail to fulfill the mandated environmental criteria are being actively barred from crossing into the capital, closing off unauthorized entry routes.
Intensive 36-Hour Screening Yields Over 7,600 Inspections
Enforcement units from the Northern Range traffic team broadened their surveillance net across critical border entry points. Operating from midnight on October 31 through 12 noon on November 2, inspection teams examined a total of 7,657 vehicles within that 36-hour operational window. The drive resulted in 609 non-compliant vehicles being turned away directly at the border. Despite motorists appealing for passage, field personnel strictly adhered to the regulatory framework and refused any exemptions.
Enforcement Focused on Emission Benchmarks Below BS-VI
In accordance with guidelines issued under both the Winter Action Plan and the Graded Response Action Plan, vehicles failing to meet BS-VI emission standards face explicit entry restrictions in Delhi. To enforce this directive, specialized enforcement units were dispatched across border posts following operational orders issued by Dr. Sachin Kumar Singhal, DCP Traffic for the Northern Range. These teams maintain round-the-clock vigilance to identify and turn back restricted categories before they enter the city transit network.
Uncompromising Stance to Curb Vehicular Emissions
The checkpoint drive remains targeted at ensuring total adherence to vehicle emission mandates under GRAP and physically preventing substandard transport from worsening local air quality. Police representatives emphasized that the Northern Range traffic wing is dedicated to upholding environmental restrictions, lowering tailpipe emissions, and helping preserve clean air for city residents. Authorities warned that motorists attempting to bypass regulatory norms will face immediate denial of entry and strict enforcement action.
