Civic infrastructure and waterfront spaces in Uttar Pradesh's Azamgarh are undergoing a structured transformation as the local municipal council launches a comprehensive overhaul of Eklavya Ghat in Maria. The initiative focuses on enhancing civic amenities, restoring riverfront surroundings, and establishing open green spaces where local residents, families, and children can safely stroll and spend leisure time together. Groundwork has officially commenced across the site to convert the neglected riverbank into an organized civic destination.
Project Allocation and Dual Park Development Under AMRUT 1.0
Detailing the scope and execution of the revamp, Executive Officer of the Municipal Council Dr. Brijesh Kumar stated that development activities are being actively mobilized to organize and upgrade the riverfront. Administrative sanction for the initiative was secured under the government's AMRUT 1.0 programme. As part of this approved blueprint, authorities are constructing two dedicated recreational zones comprising a northern park and a southern park along the ghat. Approximately Rs 1.80 crore has been designated to fund the development of one of these major recreational facilities.
Recreational Infrastructure, Green Belts, and Safety Lighting
Civil teams are executing the project on an expedited timetable in accordance with state administrative directives to deliver civic upgrades without prolonged disruption. The waterfront layout includes dynamic water fountains and decorative illumination designed to brighten the entire public space during evening hours. A dedicated playground area is being prepared specifically for children's activities, accompanied by extensive landscaping and tree plantations to expand the green canopy. To ensure pedestrian convenience and hazard-free movement, teams are restructuring the existing embankment stairways, laying down resilient interlocking pavements, and installing high-intensity lighting poles to eliminate dark zones along the riverbank.
Public Convenience Facilities and Detailed Project Report for Main Ghat
Addressing essential civic hygiene and public requirements, the project layout incorporates dedicated changing rooms alongside modern sanitation complexes for visitors and bathers. Municipal authorities anticipate completing the park development within the next 5 to 10 days, allowing immediate public opening for walking, recreation, and community exercise. Regarding the broader restructuring of the central riverfront, Dr. Kumar confirmed that engineers are compiling a Detailed Project Report (DPR). Once this technical blueprint receives formal sign-off, subsequent phases of construction across the primary ghat structure will commence immediately.
