An internal probe into the security response during a demonstration led by the Cockroach Janata Party regarding the NEET paper leak issue has revealed critical details about the use of pellet guns. An investigation conducted by the Central Reserve Police Force confirmed that a Rapid Action Force personnel, stationed in the Connaught Place area during a protest march toward Parliament on July 20, discharged seven pellet rounds from his weapon. Among the seven rounds fired, five directly hit protesters, while two rounds struck the ground.
CRPF Investigation Examines Duty Log Entries
The CRPF launched an inquiry to determine whether security personnel deployed during the rally at Jantar Mantar used pellet guns on demonstrators. Upon scrutinizing the official log entries recorded by RAF personnel, authorities confirmed that a single officer in Connaught Place had fired seven pellet rounds. The findings note that these rounds were discharged after a group of protesters assaulted security forces and commenced throwing stones at law enforcement officers.
Three Injured Victims Treated in Hospitals
At least three individuals sustained injuries from pellet hits during the protest march and required medical attention at local hospitals. The injured persons have been identified as Irshad Sheikh, a 25-year-old individual employed in Gurugram, Sahil Lochab, a 19-year-old student at Delhi University, and a 28-year-old journalist working with Outlook magazine. The Cockroach Janata Party had organized the rally to demand action over the nationwide NEET examination paper leak controversy.
