Sky-High Prices Dampen Local Excitement
Initial anticipation ran high among gadget lovers when Apple's foldable model first broke into discussions, with many eagerly tracking every update. Yet, the moment the premium variants' price tags were made public, the enthusiasm in Jodhpur quickly faded. Facing a staggering price of around 4.5 lakh rupees, local iPhone fans pointed out that such a massive sum is more than enough to purchase a brand-new car or acquire substantial amounts of gold.

Sharing his thoughts on the matter, local tech enthusiast Dikshit Parihar noted that while the new foldable handset looks visually stunning, the actual pricing completely caught him off guard. Spending four lakh fifty thousand rupees on a single phone is a daunting hurdle, he explained, adding that investing such a heavy amount in a device makes little sense when that same money could secure a car or another genuinely useful asset. He further mentioned that many were actually looking forward to the release of iPhone 18 in hopes that the iPhone 17 might become more affordable, but the company instead pushed the pricing even higher.
Weighing Luxury Goods Against Phone Purchases
Another Apple fan, Divya, expressed deep disappointment, stating that owning a foldable smartphone had long been her dream, but the sheer scale of the cost has forced her to drop the idea entirely. Allocating multiple lakhs to a single phone is outright wasteful, she argued, suggesting that the funds could be put to far better use by purchasing luxury makeup items or allocating them toward more sensible avenues.
Meanwhile, Kartik Sharma highlighted his family's long-standing fondness for Apple products, noting that he has personally used up to the iPhone 17 pro. However, when he brought up the foldable iPhone's price at home, his father remarked that the same money could easily cover a wedding's expenses, buy plenty of gold, or purchase a brand-new car.
