Police in Dausa district of Rajasthan have scored a major breakthrough against a specialized gas cutter gang targeting bank ATMs. Manpur police station officers arrested one suspect in connection with the 13 July attempt to cut open a State Bank of India (SBI) ATM booth in Sikrai town. The arrest comes as another early morning burglary attempt took place at a Central Bank of India ATM on Agra Road in Dausa city, where swift police intervention foiled the criminals before they could flee with cash. Following these consecutive incidents, security protocols across all district ATM booths have been substantially reinforced.
The 13 July Sikrai Incident and Manpur Police Action
The first incident occurred on the night of 13 July in Sikrai town, where three criminals targeted the local SBI ATM booth in a calculated manner. Investigation revealed that the trio entered the premises carrying a gas cutter and systematically attempted to sliced through the cash container inside the vault. Despite damaging the structure, the suspects were unable to extract the money and fled the spot to avoid detection. Manpur police registered a case immediately following the complaint and initiated a multi-angle forensic and technical probe.
CCTV Identification and Arrest of Sohan Singh
Investigating officers analyzed CCTV footage retrieved from the booth and neighboring locations, which clearly captured three individuals attempting to cut the machine. Combining digital tracking, camera logs, and local intelligence, police identified the suspects involved in the heist. Acting on precise information, Manpur police arrested Sohan Singh alias Sonu, a resident of Dabar Dhani Ghoomna. Preliminary questioning indicates that the group conducted detailed reconnaissance of target booths before choosing isolated locations late at night.
Two Co-Suspects Named and Inter-District Gang Investigation
Police have formally named two additional co-accused in the case, identified as Lokesh and Deshraj alias Anshul. Both suspects remain at large, and dedicated police teams are carrying out continuous raids at suspect hideouts to locate them. Investigators are examining whether the arrested suspect and his associates belong to a larger inter-district network responsible for similar high-tech ATM break-ins in neighboring regions of Rajasthan.
Second Gas Cutter Attack on Agra Road Central Bank ATM
While investigations into the Sikrai case were underway, a second break-in attempt occurred early Thursday morning at approximately 2:40 AM on Agra Road in Dausa city. Three miscreants arrived at the Central Bank ATM in a car. While one accomplice remained inside the vehicle as a getaway driver, two men entered the booth, pulled down the front shutter, and began cutting the ATM using a gas cutter.
Prompt Response Foils Break-In and Heightens Security
The illegal tampering triggered a real-time alarm at the bank's centralized control room, which immediately alerted the local Kotwali police station. A nearby police patrol vehicle reached the Agra Road site within minutes of receiving the dispatch. Seeing the approaching police vehicle, the culprits abandoned their equipment mid-operation and sped away in their car. Dausa police confirmed that intense raids are ongoing to apprehend the two absconding suspects from Sikrai and track down the culprits involved in the Agra Road incident.
