A petty dispute that began over alcohol in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district escalated into severe violence the following day, leaving one person critically wounded. The incident occurred in the Bedua neighborhood, falling under the jurisdiction of the Bichlaghat police outpost in the City Kotwali area. Following a confrontation that seemed to have settled a day earlier, the victim was ambushed and stabbed multiple times, prompting urgent medical intervention and leading law enforcement to investigate the sudden rise in aggression.
Argument Sparked During Alcohol Consumption
The sequence of events began on October 3, when individuals from two opposing groups were consuming alcohol together. During the gathering, a disagreement erupted over an issue between them, leading to a heated verbal exchange. At that moment, bystanders and local individuals intervened to defuse the situation, after which both parties dispersed and returned to their respective residences without immediate physical harm.
Violent Ambush the Next Morning
Despite the apparent cooling of tempers, the hostility resurfaced the next day around the same lingering grievance. An individual identified as JP Sahani allegedly confronted Virendra Sahani, a resident of Bedua locality, and launched a sudden assault with a knife. Virendra was repeatedly stabbed during the attack, sustaining deep wounds and collapsing in a pool of blood while panic spread through the neighborhood.
Critical Victim Transferred to Varanasi
Alerted by the commotion, relatives rushed to the scene and immediately transported the heavily bleeding Virendra to the District Hospital in Ballia. Attending doctors administered emergency first aid; however, considering the critical nature of his injuries and substantial blood loss, the medical staff determined that advanced treatment was necessary. Virendra was subsequently referred to Varanasi, where he is currently undergoing medical care.
Police Case Registered and Two Suspects Detained
Upon receiving word of the stabbing, personnel from the City Kotwali and Bichlaghat police outpost mobilized immediately. Providing details on the enforcement action, Circle Officer City Satish Kumar Sharma stated that an official case has been registered under relevant statutory sections following a written complaint lodged by the victim's daughter, Kajal Sahani. In rapid follow-up operations, police took two suspects into custody for rigorous interrogation. Police personnel have been stationed in the locality to maintain public order while further legal proceedings continue.
