A liquor gathering in Odisha's Brahmapur turned deadly on Saturday night when an altercation between companions ended in the murder of a wanted criminal. The victim, who faced multiple serious criminal cases including murder charges, was killed by his close associate during what began as an ordinary late-night get-together in the Nimakhandi locality. What started as casual banter rapidly deteriorated into insults and violence, culminating in a fatal attack on the spot.
Heated Argument and Public Disrespect Spark Chaos
The incident unfolded late on Saturday night when the criminal sat down for drinks alongside a few acquaintances in Nimakhandi. As the hours passed, an argument broke out over an unresolved matter among the group. Losing his temper amidst the confrontation, the history-sheeter struck his friend Bitu Sahu, also known as Raghab, delivering a hard slap across his face in front of the others present. Bitu, who operates a local fast food shop, felt deeply humiliated by the sudden public assault and reacted with intense rage.
Concealed Weapon Retrieved from Two-Wheeler
Enraged by the humiliation, Bitu Sahu moved directly toward his two-wheeler without hesitation. He unlocked the storage compartment of his scooter, retrieved a sharp knife kept inside, and lunged straight at the criminal. In a swift, ruthless strike, he slit the man's throat, inflicting deep trauma that proved instantly fatal. The wanted criminal collapsed onto the ground and died on the spot before anyone could intervene or arrange medical help.
Police Intercept Bloodstained Suspect at Checkpost
After executing the fatal assault, Bitu attempted to escape the locality on his scooter under the cover of night. However, his bid to flee was short-lived when patrolling police personnel noticed his blood-soaked clothes during an ongoing vehicle inspection. Superintendent of Police Abhinav Sonkar stated that the police team acted quickly upon spotting the suspicious rider, intercepting and detaining him on the route. The weapon used to slit the victim's throat was also recovered from his possession.
Forensic Examination and Probe into Bystanders' Involvement
A formal murder case has been registered at Nimakhandi police station, following which forensic experts visited the scene of the crime to collect scientific evidence and fingerprint samples. Investigators are actively determining the exact role of two other individuals who were present at the drinking party to ascertain whether they assisted in the attack or merely remained passive spectators. Police officials confirmed that the investigation is progressing to establish every detail leading up to the fatal encounter.
