In an unexpected administrative development, Maharashtra cadre Indian Police Service officer Aditya Kumar Singh from the 2023 batch has tendered his resignation after just 3 years of service. A notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs confirmed that the President of India has accepted his resignation with immediate effect, formally concluding his brief tenure in the police service.
Selection Journey, Rank, and Field Posting
Born on February 5, 1996, Aditya Kumar Singh hails originally from Delhi. He secured an all-India rank of 787 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination 2022 and officially joined the police service on August 1, 2023. Following the completion of his formal IPS induction training, he was posted as an Assistant Superintendent of Police (Under Trainee) in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra. The precise motivation behind his sudden decision to step down from the prestigious service remains undisclosed, though the move has prompted considerable discussion across administrative circles.
Inter-Cadre Transfer Following Marriage
A notable milestone during his tenure involved an inter-cadre movement shortly after his appointment. Initially, he was allotted the Odisha cadre under the 2023 batch. Subsequently, he married Ishani Anand, an IPS officer of the 2024 batch belonging to the Maharashtra cadre. Following their marriage, he requested an inter-cadre transfer. With the mutual concurrence of both state administrations in Odisha and Maharashtra alongside final approval from the central government, his cadre was reassigned to Maharashtra.
Previous Resignations by Police Officers This Year
The exit of probationary and junior officers from the service has surfaced in other instances as well. Two additional officers affiliated with the Odisha cadre stepped down earlier this year. Senior IPS officer Jagmohan Meena from the 2013 batch resigned while serving as the Deputy Commissioner of Police in Bhubaneswar. Furthermore, CA Ramdas, a 2025 batch probationer, left the service while undergoing training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad.
