What started as a digital dispute on social media platforms quickly transformed into a violent physical confrontation in Pune, highlighting the alarming real-world consequences of online feuds. A minor disagreement over a vehicle near the scenic Kas Plateau in Satara district spiraled out of control over several days, eventually culminating in a brutal attack inside a café. The violent episode left a 19-year-old content creator severely injured, prompting local law enforcement to step in swiftly, register an attempted murder case, and apprehend multiple suspects involved in the assault.
The Origin of the Feud at Kas Plateau
The roots of this violent altercation trace back to an initial encounter at the popular Kas Plateau tourist destination in Satara district. According to police records, the victim has been identified as 19-year-old social media creator Atharva Pramod Jagtap. During a visit to the plateau, Jagtap had crossed paths with fellow content creator Madhavi Rajesh Kumbhar and her acquaintances while filming stunts and driving around the area. An argument erupted between the two parties regarding a driving incident where one vehicle allegedly cut off another. Although the immediate confrontation ended there, the hostility between the groups persisted.
Escalation Online and Confrontation at the Café
Rather than dying down after returning to Pune, the tension between the individuals continued to simmer through online messaging and social media exchanges. The digital rivalry eventually boiled over on the morning of August 15. Police details indicate that the incident unfolded between 3:15 AM and 4:45 AM at Café Flying Gypsy, located on Shirole Road in the Deccan Gymkhana area. Atharva happened to arrive at the café where Madhavi Kumbhar and Snehal Sonke were already present, setting the stage for an explosive encounter.
Brutal Attack Inside the Establishment
Upon spotting Atharva, Madhavi allegedly summoned her associates to the location. As the victim attempted to leave the premises, he was intercepted by the group who began questioning him about the past dispute at Kas Plateau. The verbal confrontation rapidly escalated as the assailants pursued Atharva back inside the café and launched a physical assault. The victim was subjected to severe beatings using hands, feet, and other objects available at the scene, leaving him bloodied and defenseless before the attackers fled.
Weapon Involved and Subsequent Police Arrests
During the assault, one of the attackers attempted to slash Atharva's neck with a sharp weapon, though the victim managed to evade a direct hit to the throat. However, he sustained a severe blow to his head, rendering him critically injured. The assailants left him bleeding profusely and escaped. Deccan police officers rushed to the hospital to record Atharva's statement and formally registered a First Information Report regarding the incident.
Police have successfully arrested seven adult suspects along with detaining a minor in connection with the crime. The arrested individuals include Madhavi Rajesh Kumbhar (23), Snehal Sanjay Sonke (21), Rahul Sitaram Waghmare (20), Shivanand alias Shivraj Talwar (21), Aditya Sunil Bhalerao (22), Priyanshu alias Piyush Pradeep Bhosale (22), and Prem Manoj Salve (22). The suspects hail from various neighborhoods across Pune. Sub-Inspector Yogesh More is currently leading the ongoing investigation to uncover the exact nature of the social media interactions that preceded the attack.
