Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Sherathang near Nathu La in Sikkim on Sunday, where he paid floral tributes to fallen soldiers at a war memorial. Addressing military personnel stationed along the India-China border, Singh stated that such memorials serve as lasting symbols of respect for brave soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice for the nation and will continue to inspire future generations of Indian youth.
Praise for Troops in Challenging Terrain
Applauding the courage and dedication of security personnel deployed in difficult and challenging conditions, the Defence Minister remarked that it is because of the armed forces that citizens across the country are able to celebrate Diwali peacefully. Singh also paid tribute to the families of military personnel who lost their loved ones while serving the nation, remembering their immense contribution and sacrifice. Reassuring the families of the martyrs, he told them that India stands firmly with them and promised that the nation will always cherish the memory of their loved ones.
Highlighting the personal sacrifices made by troops, Singh noted that while Diwali is an occasion for families to come together and celebrate, soldiers often remain away from their near and dear ones, setting aside their personal feelings to fulfill their duty towards the country. During his visit to the high-altitude region, Singh interacted extensively with the deployed military personnel and distributed sweets and gifts among them.
Interactions and Temple Visit
He told the troops that their service to the nation will never be forgotten and every generation of Indians will remember their sacrifice, adding that the country will forever remain indebted to the soldiers. The Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and senior army officials accompanied the Defence Minister during this visit. Later, Singh visited the Baba Harbhजन Singh Mandir located in eastern Sikkim, a shrine dedicated to Indian Army soldier HarbhajAN Singh.
