India's most wanted gangster Gurpreet Singh, alias Goldy Dhillon, has finally been caught. Madrid police in the Spanish capital arrested him after acting on information passed on by Indian security agencies. Intelligence gathered by the Anti Gangster Task Force is said to have formed the basis on which Spain's security agencies carried out the operation.
Who is Goldy Dhillon
Goldy Dhillon, a resident of Rajpura in Punjab's Patiala district, had been hiding abroad for a long time. The National Investigation Agency, or NIA, had announced a reward of 10 lakh rupees for information leading to his arrest. He was wanted in several serious criminal cases, including murder, attempt to murder, extortion and illegal possession of weapons.
From Lawrence Bishnoi's friend to his enemy
At one point, Goldy Dhillon was considered extremely close to gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and Goldy Brar. Over time, however, cracks appeared in these relationships, and he allegedly turned into a rival of the Bishnoi network. Security agencies say he was running an extensive extortion and target killing module through gangs active in Canada and Europe.
Multiple cases registered in Chandigarh and Punjab
Police records show that Goldy Dhillon is accused of involvement in several incidents in Chandigarh and Punjab. These include a firing incident in Chandigarh's Sector 5 in 2024. He has also been named in the murder of a cashier at a medical hall in Sector 11, which took place on 13 June.
Reached Canada via Germany, ran his gang from there
According to reports, Goldy Dhillon travelled to Canada via Germany and was operating his entire gang from there. He is also said to have claimed responsibility for some firing incidents in Canada and the murder of a businessman. Investigating agencies are additionally probing his alleged links with certain Khalistani organisations.
Kapil Sharma's cafe attacked three times
Last year, Goldy Dhillon's name surfaced in connection with a shooting at comedian Kapil Sharma's cafe, Kap's Cafe, in Surrey, Canada, after which security agencies went on high alert. The cafe was attacked three times last year. The first firing took place on 10 July, when staff were present inside. The second incident occurred on 8 August, when around 25 rounds were fired. The third shooting took place on 17 October, and responsibility for this attack was claimed by Goldy Dhillon, who had been linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, along with Kuldeep Sidhu.
