The sacred month of Sawan began with immense religious fervor as thousands of Shiva devotees gathered at the famed Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi. On the opening day of the festivities, ordinary pilgrims experienced enhanced VIP-style hospitality across the shrine complex. Devotees walking toward the sanctum sanctorum were showered with flower petals and guided along plush red carpets laid throughout the pathways. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also visited the temple during the early morning hours, performing elaborate rituals and praying for the overall progress and prosperity of the state and the nation.
Grand Ceremonies and Massive Turnout
Doors of the shrine were opened to the public immediately following the morning Mangala Aarti. From dawn onward, endless queues of worshippers stretched across the temple corridors as pilgrims waited to offer holy water at the sacred lingam. Temple authorities expect this continuous influx of visitors to persist late into the night, estimating that between 1.5 lakh and 2 lakh devotees will offer prayers on the first day alone.
Jhanki Darshan, Seven Entry Gates and Security Measures
To accommodate the heavy crowd without compromising safety, temple authorities activated special Jhanki Darshan arrangements, enabling pilgrims to view the deity and complete their rituals through all four main gates. Furthermore, to handle the anticipated surge on upcoming Sawan Mondays, administration officials have prepared seven designated entry points across the complex. District administration personnel have also put strict security protocols in place to maintain law and order throughout the area.
Closure of Baggage Counters and Suspension of Protocol Darshan
To streamline crowd flow, the temple administration temporarily shut down all baggage storage counters within the premises. Kashi Vishwanath Temple Trust CEO Vishwa Bhushan Mishra appealed to visiting devotees to leave mobile phones and other electronic gadgets behind at their hotels or lodges before heading to the temple. Additionally, protocol darshan privileges have been completely suspended to prevent delays and ensure unhindered movement for common pilgrims.
On-Site Welfare Amenities and Global Live Telecast
A comprehensive series of amenities has been arranged to support visiting pilgrims inside the temple grounds. Clean drinking water stations operate continuously, while temple volunteers distribute biscuits and toffees to young children in line. For elderly visitors, special glucose arrangements have been set up to combat fatigue, alongside medical teams stationed on standby throughout the shrine. Meanwhile, devotees across India and abroad who cannot travel to Varanasi can watch direct live broadcasts of temple ceremonies through Tata Sky.
