The Uttar Pradesh administration has introduced a major rehabilitation measure for former Agniveers completing their military tenure, opening up substantial employment avenues across state public services. Under this policy, four major government departments will reserve 20 percent of their vacancies exclusively for candidates who have served under the Agnipath defence scheme, integrating disciplined personnel into civil administration.
Cabinet Approval and Covered Departments
The policy gained formal clearance following a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The 20 percent quota will apply directly to recruitment drives conducted by four government sectors, including the Forest Department, the Fire Service, and the Prisons Department. In order to operationalize these employment provisions smoothly, departments like the Forest Department are amending their existing recruitment service rules to formally incorporate the quota parameters.
Exemptions in Physical Tests, Written Exams, and Age Criteria
Beyond the earmarked vacancy quota, the state framework extends several recruitment relaxations designed to acknowledge the military training of these candidates. Former Agniveers applying for these posts will receive exemptions and concessions in physical efficiency testing (PET) as well as specific written examinations. Additionally, relaxed upper age limits will be granted to accommodate the years spent during active defence deployments, easing their transition into civilian policing and enforcement roles.
What Yogi Adityanath Said
Announcing the executive decision, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath shared a post on social media X, confirming that the Uttar Pradesh government is moving forward to provide a 20 percent reservation for Agniveers across various state departments. The leadership highlighted that inducting disciplined, physically trained, and tech-savvy personnel into enforcement and emergency services will enhance departmental efficiency.
