The announcement of Ashutosh Tiwari as the BJP candidate for the upcoming bypoll in the Datia assembly constituency of Madhya Pradesh has triggered significant turmoil among local party workers. Supporters of former Home Minister Dr. Narottam Mishra expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the party's selection process, leading to widespread protests. The situation turned critical in the early hours of Saturday when demonstrators staged a major protest on National Highway-44, causing a traffic gridlock that stretched for approximately 15 kilometers.
Escalation to Violence and Stone Pelting
Tensions reached a breaking point during the protest when the situation descended into a violent confrontation between the demonstrators and law enforcement officers. The mob reportedly engaged in stone-pelting, targeting the police force present at the site. This outbreak of violence resulted in injuries to six police personnel. In response to the escalating unrest, authorities were compelled to use force, including the deployment of tear gas shells, to disperse the crowd and clear the highway obstruction.
Tightened Security and Ongoing Vigilance

The core grievance of the agitated workers is that the central party leadership should reconsider their decision regarding the candidate nomination for the Datia bypoll. The protesters feel that the current choice does not align with the local party sentiments. Meanwhile, the administration has urged the public to maintain peace and assist in keeping the law and order situation stable. Security remains on high alert in sensitive pockets of the city as authorities continue to observe the unfolding events closely.
