Inspired by Swami Vivekananda's vision regarding the integration of scientific inquiry and higher education for national development, pioneering industrialist Jamsetji Tata had approached the Maharaja of Mysuru to request land for setting up a premier research institution.
In response to Jamsetji Tata's vision, the Maharaja of Mysuru generously allocated more than 300 acres of land in Bengaluru. That royal land grant laid the bedrock for what has grown into one of India's foremost centers for advanced scientific research and academic excellence.
