Early Sunday morning, a heavy police contingent executed a court-sanctioned search warrant at the Saraswati Nagar residence of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) MLA Amit Kumar Ranu in Muzaffarpur, Bihar. The legislator, who represents the Belsand assembly constituency in Sitamarhi district, was present inside his house when senior police officials, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, arrived to conduct the search. The high-profile action against the party led by Union Minister Chirag Paswan follows serious allegations of land grabbing, boundary demolition, and extortion leveled against the MLA's brother, Sonu Singh.
Detailed Verification of Land and Property Documents
In the presence of MLA Amit Kumar Ranu, law enforcement personnel thoroughly inspected various documents related to land titles, property ownership, and other legal papers kept at the premises. Officers carefully cross-checked the authenticity of the records to verify property claims associated with the ongoing investigation. Police had obtained a search warrant from the local court prior to the operation, ensuring full legal authorization for the thorough inspection. A substantial police deployment was stationed outside and around the Saraswati Nagar home to preserve order throughout the exercise.
The August 20 Land Incident in Ahiyapur
The core of the investigation traces back to a violent land dispute reported on August 20 within the jurisdiction of the Ahiyapur police station. According to the written complaint filed by the victim, a boundary wall and adjacent structures on a disputed plot were illegally demolished. Allegations state that Sonu Singh, the brother of the Belsand legislator, arrived at the scene leading a convoy of roughly 20 vehicles, several of which prominently displayed LJP (Ram Vilas) party flags.
Accompanied by several unidentified individuals, the group allegedly deployed a JCB excavator to tear down the boundary wall and damage surrounding structures. Victims captured video footage of the demolition as it took place and subsequently submitted it to law enforcement along with a formal complaint. Acting on the complaint, police registered a First Information Report and promptly arrested two individuals, who were later remanded to judicial custody, while continuing their search for other named suspects.
Criminal Record of Sonu Singh and Ongoing Inquiry
Official police records indicate that Sonu Singh faces approximately 13 criminal cases, primarily involving land disputes, property encroachment, and extortion. Police officials stated that locating Sonu Singh was also one of the motives behind inspecting the MLA's residence. Investigating teams are currently scrutinizing the video evidence provided by the victims, written statements, land records, and other physical evidence to ascertain the precise role played by Sonu Singh and other suspects named in the case.
Statements from MLA Amit Kumar Ranu and Police Authorities
Following the conclusion of the search, MLA Amit Kumar Ranu addressed the media, confirming that a police team arrived at his residence with a valid search warrant. He stated that he extended full cooperation to the investigating officers during the entire process. The lawmaker asserted that the search yielded no incriminating documents or evidence, and the police team departed without recovering anything illegal.
Conversely, police authorities emphasized that the investigation remains active. Official representatives stated that complete details regarding the inspected documents, evidence collected, and subsequent legal steps will be shared publicly once the preliminary inquiry is fully concluded.
