Shehzad Poonawalla, who served as a national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Janata Party, has reiterated his appeal to the party leadership to formally accept his resignation from all duties and primary membership. Having initially offered his unconditional exit in late July, Poonawalla emphasized that while he is stepping away from the organizational system, his underlying respect for the party's leadership and core principles remains firm. By posting a copy of his recent letter on social platform X, he confirmed his intention to move away from active politics and step into the corporate world.
Firm Standing After Reconsideration
Detailing the context behind his decision, Shehzad Poonawalla shared that he had first tendered an unconditional resignation from all organizational positions and primary membership on July 30. Rather than accepting the request immediately, the party leadership had advised him to take time and reevaluate his stance. However, after extensive reflection and evaluating recent developments, Poonawalla concluded that his original decision was the correct course of action. In his letter dated August 17 addressed to party president Nitin Nabin, he humbly requested that his resignation be approved without further delay so he could step down from his role as national spokesperson.
Transition to the Private Sector
Clarifying the driving factors behind his departure, Poonawalla dismissed suggestions of political disagreement or internal friction within the party. He explained that personal and financial imperatives are prompting him to transition into the private sector for the next chapter of his career. Poonawalla noted that this move is purely dictated by his individual circumstances and practical requirements. He assured that despite stepping outside the formal political structure, he will continue to back the administration's broader developmental goals and the Prime Minister's roadmap wherever feasible.
Expressing Gratitude to Party Leadership
In his letter and accompanying social media statement, Poonawalla expressed deep gratitude toward the senior hierarchy of the BJP. He specifically acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Nitin Nabin, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and General Secretary (Organization) BL Santhosh. Reflecting on his tenure over the past five years, Poonawalla highlighted the platform and opportunities provided to him by the organization. He maintained that he departs with affection, respect, and zero bitterness regarding his time serving as a public voice for the party.
Commitment to Ideology and Personal Journey
Reflecting on his trajectory, Poonawalla reinforced that his exit from the organizational apparatus does not signal a departure from the party's foundational philosophy. He stated clearly that he is merely exiting the system rather than renouncing any individual or core belief. Highlighting his background as a young Pasmanda Muslim hailing from a non-political family, Poonawalla remarked that such growth and opportunities would not have been conceivable within any other political framework. He concluded by affirming his ongoing enthusiasm for national goals such as Viksit Bharat under Prime Minister Modi's leadership.
