BJP leader and former Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu has been targeted with a highly alarming death threat via a telephone call. This critical security development comes on the heels of a separate physical confrontation where his convoy was targeted in Punjab, raising significant concerns over his personal security and demanding immediate attention from law enforcement agencies.
An Ominous Warning from Across the Border
According to security inputs, the threat call to Ravneet Singh Bittu was made under the name of Malik Ishaq, a leader associated with the Pakistan-based extremist organization Lashkar-e-Jhangvi. The anonymous caller issued a chilling message to the politician, warning him of a lethal trap. Specifically, the caller stated, "A one-kilogram box is ready for you. Whenever you come under our grip, we will finish the job, which will kill many people." Following this direct warning of a mass-casualty strike, intelligence and security forces have been placed on high alert to evaluate the threat level.
Alleged Assault by Political Activists in Batala
Prior to receiving the terror threat, Bittu had faced a volatile situation near Batala in Punjab. He claimed that a group of over 100 workers belonging to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) intercepted and attacked his security convoy. This confrontation occurred while Bittu was traveling toward Pathankot to participate in an anti-drug rally. According to his account, the mob pelted stones and threw eggs at his vehicles when the motorcade slowed down near Batala. The violent demonstration shattered the windows of two vehicles in his convoy and caused damage to the security jammer vehicle accompanying him.
Demands for Accountability and Central Intervention
Following the convoy incident, Bittu expressed strong discontent with the local police, accusing them of remaining passive spectators during the entire episode. He asserted that if any physical harm comes to him or his associates, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the state DGP would be directly responsible. Bittu's security team managed to apprehend three individuals at the scene after the clash, though local police have not released an immediate official response. The matter has also been reported to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for review. Bittu, who is the grandson of former Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh, was heading to join the anti-drug drive launched by BJP leader Nitin Naveen.
