A major initiative has been launched to overhaul the road infrastructure in and around Ajmer, promising a much smoother commute for residents and pilgrims traveling between Ajmer and the historic town of Pushkar. On Sunday, Rajasthan Legislative Assembly Speaker Vasudev Devnani formally inaugurated several key road construction, strengthening, and widening projects worth approximately Rs 12 crore. This extensive development drive focuses on improving connectivity, reinforcing existing thoroughfares, and widening congested segments to accommodate the ever-growing volume of vehicles in the region.
Extensive Road Network from Varun Sagar to Kharekhedi
As per the scheduled developmental itinerary, the assembly speaker began his tour by cutting the ceremonial ribbon to inaugurate the road construction work stretching from Varun Sagar to Ajayasar village. Following this initial ceremony, Devnani proceeded to the main event venue located at Lucky Tiraha on Kharekhedi Road. At this central location, he laid the foundation stones for the widening and strengthening of the Varun Sagar-Kharekhedi-Pushkar route as well as the Varun Sagar-Ajmer road, marking a significant milestone for local transit corridors.
Grand Welcome for the Municipal Mayor
The grand foundation-laying ceremony was attended by the Mayor of Ajmer Municipal Corporation, Anamika Sharma, and BJP City President Ramesh Soni, along with numerous party officials and grassroots workers. Notably, this was Anamika Sharma's maiden visit to this particular constituency since taking charge as the municipal corporation's mayor, which generated immense enthusiasm among local supporters. Amidst the presence of the assembly speaker, the mayor was accorded a spectacular welcome, with supporters using hydraulic earth movers (JCBs) to shower flower petals and present heavy garlands.
Bypassing the Congested Mountain Pass
Addressing the gathering at the venue, Vasudev Devnani emphasized the strategic importance of these roadworks. He explained that once these projects are completed, commuters between Ajmer and Pushkar will have access to a highly efficient and comfortable alternative route. Currently, those traveling to the holy town of Pushkar primarily rely on the mountain pass (Ghati) route, which experiences extreme traffic pressure. This often leads to prolonged traffic jams, particularly during festivals. The development of the Varun Sagar-Kharekhedi route will provide a reliable bypass, saving valuable time and fuel for motorists and tourists alike.
Leopard Safari and Ecotourism at Varun Sagar
In addition to transit improvements, the assembly speaker detailed the broader administrative focus on ecological restoration and tourism in the area. Devnani noted that the ongoing efforts extend far beyond just laying asphalt; they aim to enhance the local landscape and create modern tourist facilities. Under various government schemes, development works are being fast-tracked in the Varun Sagar region. To attract more wildlife enthusiasts, plans are underway to establish a dedicated leopard safari alongside other recreational activities. Concurrently, desilting operations are being conducted at the Varun Sagar reservoir to increase its water storage capacity and optimize the utility of the water body.
Steering Regional Development to New Heights
Emphasizing the holistic growth of the entire region, Devnani highlighted that various development projects collectively worth about Rs 81 crore are currently active in the Varun Sagar area and its neighboring villages. Once these comprehensive infrastructure and ecological projects are fully realized, they will provide a major boost to transport, tourism, and civic amenities. The speaker expressed confidence that this dual focus on transport infrastructure and tourism development will elevate the socio-economic landscape of the Ajmer-Pushkar region, steering its overall development toward a prosperous future.
