Amid high electoral enthusiasm, the official Congress party candidate from ward 15 had arrived at the SDM office to submit nomination papers. A group of supporters and local youths were present outside the office premises to back the candidate. The occurrence of such brazen violence on a key election day has raised serious questions regarding administrative preparations.
Attackers arrived in two vehicles
Witnesses at the scene stated that as the Congress candidate was stepping out after completing the nomination formalities, a group of pre-positioned miscreants suddenly arrived at the spot in two vehicles. Without wasting any time, the perpetrators directly targeted the youths accompanying the candidate and unleashed a brutal assault. This sudden and fatal attack triggered panic, creating a stampede-like situation for a brief period as people scrambled for safety.
Five injured and one in critical condition
The brawl and attack right outside the SDM office gate resulted in severe injuries to five individuals.
