Jodhpur is bracing for tight security on Saturday, July 4, as a VVIP travel programme is scheduled in the city, prompting a temporary but significant overhaul of local traffic arrangements. The traffic police commissionerate has issued a special advisory keeping security arrangements, smooth movement of vehicles and public convenience in mind. Under the advisory, heavy vehicles will be completely barred from certain major roads starting 9 pm on July 3 right through the evening of July 4. Police officials have made clear that security will be treated as the top priority throughout the programme.
Traffic police have appealed to motorists to use alternative routes instead of the restricted stretches to avoid inconvenience. Doing so will keep the city's traffic flowing smoothly even during the VVIP movement, sparing ordinary commuters from unnecessary trouble or long jams. Traffic personnel have also been deployed at various intersections across the city to keep the arrangement running smoothly.
Roads that will be off-limits for heavy vehicles
According to the official order issued by traffic police, the movement of heavy vehicles will be completely restricted on the stretch from Circuit House to the Air Force Tempo Stand, from Pabupura to the Officers Mess intersection, and from the rear gate of the Defence Airport to Jhalamand Chauraha. In addition, during the main hours of the VVIP programme, even ordinary vehicles will be completely stopped from using the route from Pabupura via the Civil Airport to the Air Force Officers Mess, and back from there towards Pabupura.
Relief for airport-bound travellers who can show their tickets
Amid these strict curbs, a major relief has been carved out for passengers travelling to and from the Civil Airport. Travellers heading to the airport, along with their vehicles, will be given special permission to pass through the restricted route on showing their air ticket. Vehicles engaged in emergency services, such as ambulances and fire brigades, have also been given a complete exemption from the restrictions, ensuring that essential and life-saving services in the city are not affected.
Police urge residents to plan ahead and cooperate
Traffic police have made a strong appeal to all residents of Jodhpur, and heavy vehicle drivers in particular, to avoid using the restricted roads within the specified time window. Police have clarified that no ordinary vehicle will be allowed on the road leading from the Air Force Officers Mess towards Pabupura during the programme. Motorists have therefore been advised to plan their travel in advance and take alternative routes. According to police, the sole objective of this temporary traffic arrangement is to ensure security, so following the rules will help commuters avoid getting stuck in jams.
