Cancer patients across Kota and its neighbouring districts are set to receive specialized local medical care with the upcoming establishment of a state-of-the-art oncology unit at Kota Medical College. The facility, estimated to cost around Rs 150 crore, was officially announced by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. Designed as a separate wing within the existing medical college campus, the centre aims to upgrade regional healthcare infrastructure and deliver advanced therapeutic facilities to patients closer to home.
Dedicated Infrastructure Inside the Campus
The primary vision behind setting up this dedicated unit is to bring comprehensive cancer diagnosis, consultation, and treatment under a single roof. An estimated budget of Rs 150 crore has been earmarked for this infrastructure, which will function as an autonomous specialized wing within Kota Medical College. By creating an exclusive space tailored to oncology needs, the hospital administration intends to house advanced medical equipment and provide streamlined clinical care for patients navigating long-term recovery.
Directives Issued to Expedite Project Clearance
Following the public announcement by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, administrative preparations have been set in motion. Clear instructions have been handed down to both the medical college management and the District Collector to initiate preliminary procedures promptly. The administration must now outline the technical requirements, finalize structural planning, and coordinate the necessary clearances to get the groundwork underway. Moving forward, the focus will remain on how rapidly the execution phases progress to bring the facility into operation.
Easing the Burden of Intercity Travel for Patients
Kota Medical College currently functions as a central healthcare hub for the wider division as well as several adjacent districts. However, the absence of extensive advanced oncology facilities locally has historically forced numerous patients and their families to travel to distant major cities for therapy. This journey creates substantial financial and physical hardship for families already coping with serious illness. Once fully operational, this new Rs 150 crore cancer unit will bridge critical service gaps locally, ensuring specialized healthcare access directly within Kota.
