Panic has gripped Lunakha village in the Chattargarh region of Bikaner district following a rampage by a rabid dog. The vicious attacks by the dog have resulted in the tragic deaths of three cows and a sheep. This incident has triggered widespread fear across the entire locality as the threat of rabies now looms over more than fifteen hundred animals in the area. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, local administration and the animal husbandry department have shifted into high alert.
Vaccination drive and isolation measures
In response to the escalating threat, the animal husbandry department took immediate action by launching a vaccination campaign for over fifteen hundred animals in the Lunakha region. Furthermore, livestock displaying suspicious symptoms are being separated and kept in isolation to prevent the infection from spreading to other healthy animals. Departmental teams are continuously setting up camps in various villages and instructing livestock owners to remain vigilant.
Villager anxiety and health department intervention
Amidst the animal deaths and the looming danger of rabies, grave concern has grown among villagers who consumed milk from the infected livestock. As a precautionary measure, the health department acted swiftly to administer rabies vaccines to about one hundred seventy villagers. The administration has also urged everyone who consumed the milk or came into contact with the animals to undergo immediate health checkups.
Administration warnings and continuous monitoring
The administration and the animal husbandry department have jointly issued a special advisory for the villagers. Officials stated that anyone spotting a suspicious or rabid dog should report it immediately and keep their livestock secured inside enclosures. Joint teams from the health and animal husbandry departments are maintaining continuous surveillance to ensure the safety of villagers and protect their livestock.
