When a noble intention drives an initiative, collective support tends to follow naturally. A shining example of this spirit is the Nand Baba Gaushala located in Amerpura village within the rural belt of Jaipur. What began as a humble resolution in January 2025 has now transformed into a safe and reliable sanctuary for over 65 stray and abandoned cattle. Through continuous community backing and the relentless hard work of devoted animal volunteers, the infrastructure and overall setup of the shelter have steadily improved over time.
A Journey Born from Spiritual Guidance and Dedication
The entire endeavor took root from a deep sense of spiritual inspiration and a commitment to animal welfare. Guided by Mahant Nanda Baba Yadav, a follower of Jai Gurudev and the head of the Nand Baba Ashram, animal volunteer Kaluaram Jajhadiya and his dedicated team took the initiative to establish a cow shelter on government land within the village. In the early days, resources were severely limited, and the financial standing of the organizers was far from strong. Despite these initial hurdles, the team kept their service going without interruption. Gradually, villagers and outside supporters began to connect with the initiative, steadily cementing public trust in the shelter.
Social Media Amplifies the Message of Cow Service
Digital platforms and social media played a pivotal role in strengthening the foundation of the Gaushala. Kaluaram Jajhadiya utilized social media channels to spread the message of animal welfare far and wide, inspiring animal lovers from various parts of the state and the country to step forward with contributions. While some donors provided financial assistance to procure fodder, others contributed directly to ongoing construction work. In this manner, small contributions from numerous individuals collectively transformed into a massive public service campaign.
Providing Regular Shelter for Over 65 Stray Cattle
At present, the Nand Baba Gaushala provides a protective home to more than 65 stray cattle that once wandered unprotected in the village and surrounding areas. Regular arrangements for fresh fodder and clean drinking water are maintained here for all the animals. Furthermore, sick or injured cattle are promptly identified and provided with necessary medical treatment. The dedicated team at the shelter strives to ensure that no stray cattle remain in an unsafe situation on public roads and that every animal finds a secure home.
Administrative Support and Plans for Permanent Land Allotment
With active assistance from the community, development and construction work worth approximately 5 lakh 20 thousand rupees has been successfully executed at the shelter so far. Recognizing the noble cause and the positive social impact of the Gaushala, the District Collector intervened to facilitate the allocation of permanent land. Directives have been issued through the Jaipur Development Authority to allocate a dedicated plot. Securing this permanent land will greatly assist the organizers in expanding and better organizing the shelter's operations in the future.
Special Focus on Environmental Conservation and Bird Care
The mission of the Nand Baba Gaushala extends well beyond the immediate care of cattle, as special emphasis is placed on protecting the environment and safeguarding local birds. Tree plantation drives are conducted within the shelter premises every month, while water pots are hung during the scorching summer months and other seasons to quench the thirst of birds. People associated with the shelter view these humanitarian efforts as a broader responsibility toward nature and all living creatures rather than limiting their work strictly to animal husbandry.
Round-the-Clock Dedication by Animal Volunteers
Volunteer Kaluaram Jajhadiya dedicates his daily routine to personally overseeing the cleanliness of the premises and looking after the cattle. From feeding fresh fodder and providing water to monitoring sick animals and transporting them to veterinary hospitals when required, he remains actively involved. Day or night, whenever information regarding a distressed stray animal is received, the team promptly works to relocate it to a safe space. This unwavering spirit of selfless service continues to turn the shelter into a trusted hub for public reliance and cooperation.
