People are usually warned to be wary of unknown men, but a fresh case from Parbatsar shows that a fraudster can turn up in any form, even as a woman. Here, an elderly widow was lured so smoothly by a stranger that she did not suspect a thing until it was too late. The woman built trust through casual conversation, used the excuse of pension verification, and the moment she got a chance, she made off with a bag full of jewellery.
Since the incident, the elderly woman has been left feeling cheated. Neighbours are stunned too, because the woman who pulled off the con behaved throughout as if she had come only to help. After the matter came to light, a complaint was filed with the police, and people are being urged to stay alert.
A Conversation At The Bus Stand, Then The Trap
The incident took place at the Parbatsar bus stand. There, an unidentified woman struck up a conversation with the elderly widow. During the chat she presented herself as trustworthy and said that verification linked to the pension needed to be done. She assured the widow she would help with the task and gradually led her along. It is said that the accused got the elderly woman to remove her madaliya and earrings, and then took control of a bag full of ornaments as well. The widow did not even realise she was being cheated. A little later, the accused dropped her near Delhi Darwaza and disappeared.
Suspect Caught On CCTV, Police On The Hunt
When the elderly woman realised she had been duped, she first informed people nearby and then complained to the police. CCTV footage from cameras in the area was then examined, and a suspicious woman was spotted in it. Police are linking this woman to the case and are trying to identify her. They are also checking whether she has carried out similar crimes before.
The Elderly Are Becoming Easy Targets
The incident has heightened worry among local residents. Police have appealed to people not to trust any stranger who offers help in the name of pension verification, a government scheme or any other work, without first confirming their identity. The case once again makes it clear that fraudsters are adopting newer and newer tricks, and the elderly in particular are being targeted. In such times, caution is the best defence, and one should never hand over jewellery, money or valuables to a stranger simply because they ask for it.
