Administrative commitments surrounding the upcoming Panchayati Raj elections in Rajasthan have led to a major adjustment in the recruitment examination calendar. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board has deferred both the Senior Secondary and Graduate levels of the Common Eligibility Test, widely known as CET. This rescheduling directly impacts more than 30 lakh candidates across the state who are preparing for state government positions. Major General Alok Raj, Chairman of the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, confirmed the postponement and outlined the revised timeline for both examinations.
Senior Secondary Exam Shifted to December
Under the initial schedule, the CET Senior Secondary level examination was proposed to take place between October 23 and October 25. The board has now rescheduled these dates, moving the exam window to December 1 through December 3, 2026. More than 24 lakh candidates from across the state are projected to sit for this specific level. Managing an examination of this magnitude requires extensive arrangements, including designated test centres, stringent security measures, and broad administrative oversight. Because the civil and police administrative machinery will be extensively tied up with Panchayati Raj election duties, rescheduling became unavoidable. Applicants must now calibrate their revision and travel plans according to the early December slot.
Graduate Level Eligibility Test Moved to January 2027
The rescheduling has created a domino effect on the CET Graduate level exam. Originally slated to run from December 1 to December 3, 2026, the graduate level test has been pushed into the second and third weeks of January 2027 to make room for the senior secondary exam. Around 17 lakh candidates from across the state are registered to participate in the graduate tier. Because CET serves as a mandatory gateway for recruitment into numerous government departments in Rajasthan, any shift in dates directly alters the preparation timelines of lakhs of aspiring candidates.
Updated Timelines and Next Administrative Steps
Major General Alok Raj explained that overlapping responsibilities from the Panchayati Raj elections made it essential to stagger the recruitment tests. Candidates have been advised to restructure their study plans around the newly declared timetable. The board announced that further specifics regarding allocated examination centres, admit card distribution, and operational guidelines will be released as the respective examination dates draw closer.
