Festive celebrations have picked up momentum across Rajasthan's capital as special illuminations officially got underway along Mirza Ismail Road, widely known as MI Road. Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma arrived at the historic Panch Batti crossing on Thursday to flip the master switch, instantly lighting up the bustling three-kilometre commercial strip. The elaborate decorative lighting will remain fully active over the next 11 days, offering a visual centrepiece for festive shoppers and incoming tourists alike.
Themes Celebrating Heritage And Modern Progress
The installation along the market corridor incorporates distinct artistic concepts designed for this festive edition. Light structures feature depictions of Ram Setu alongside motifs highlighting Rising Rajasthan, blending spiritual reverence with the state's contemporary developmental journey. In addition, the design commemorates the milestone of the Pink City completing 300 years since its foundation. Through these synchronised light displays, organisers aimed to reflect both traditional roots and regional aspirations along the bustling roadway.
Folk Performances At Panch Batti Intersection
The switch-on ceremony at Panch Batti was accompanied by vibrant showcases of regional folk traditions. While the road was bathed in multicoloured lights, cultural performers staged Kalbelia dance, Kachhi Ghodi dance, and traditional brass band recitals. These energetic presentations drew the attention of commuters and gathering crowds. Following the formal launch, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma inspected the marketplace displays and conveyed Diwali greetings to the residents of Jaipur and the broader state.
Business Associations And Lawmakers Unite
Organised as a collaborative endeavour by the MI Road Vyapar Mandal, the event brought together public representatives cutting across political lines. Jaipur Mayor Sunil Kothari attended the ceremony alongside Congress MLA Rafiq Khan, BJP MLA Gopal Sharma, and former minister and MLA Kalicharan Saraf. Traders and association officials welcomed the Chief Minister and outlined the coordinated community effort required to illuminate the entire three-kilometre retail corridor. Commercial leaders emphasised that such joint decorations preserve the city's historic dignity while invigorating local trade.
Festive Footfall And Market Prospects
Immediately following the switch-on, vehicular movement and pedestrian traffic surged along MI Road as visitors stepped out to view the lights. Market association representatives pointed out that the 11-day decorative arrangement is intentionally tailored to draw festive shoppers into retail outlets while showcasing Jaipur's classic charm in a refreshed manner. Throughout the festival period, this illuminated avenue is expected to remain one of the city's primary evening attractions.
