Police in Rajasthan's Tonk district have cracked a theft case with an unusual twist, the thief turned out to be a family member. A man stole nearly Rs 14 lakh from the house of his own sister-in-law, and officers tracked him down in just 24 hours, recovering Rs 13,58,500 in cash along with the stolen Alto car used in the crime.
Money Hidden In A Grain Container After Land Sale
The victim, the accused's sister-in-law, had sold her land a few days earlier. To keep the nearly Rs 14 lakh she received safe, she stored it inside a grain container, locally called a kothi, at her parental home. She believed the cash could not be safer anywhere else in the house. What she did not know was that her own brother-in-law had his eye on that very money.
A Debt-Ridden Brother-In-Law Gave In To Greed
According to police, the accused works as a supervisor at a factory and was buried in debt. He somehow learned that his sister-in-law had stashed lakhs of rupees from the land sale inside the grain kothi. Struggling with financial distress, he hatched a plan to rob his own in-laws' house. The moment he got a chance, he grabbed the entire stash of cash and fled. What made the case more startling was that nobody in the house had the slightest clue about the theft until it was discovered.
Special Team Cracks The Case In 24 Hours
Superintendent of Police Roshan Meena briefed reporters on Friday, laying out the full timeline of the investigation. He said that on June 30, Nandlal Bairwa, a resident of Sohela village under Barauni police station limits, filed a complaint reporting the theft of Rs 13,58,500 from his house. As soon as the complaint came in, a special team was formed under the supervision of CO Niwai Mrityunjay Mishra, led by DST in-charge Omprakash Chaudhary and Barauni station house officer Narayanlal. The team began piecing together technical evidence, CCTV footage and tips from informers.
Shyoraj Bairwa Of Suratpura Luhara Arrested
The investigation revealed that the thief was none other than Shyoraj Bairwa (30), the brother-in-law of victim Nandlal Bairwa, a resident of Suratpura Luhara village under Niwai Sadar police station limits. Police arrested him within just 24 hours of the complaint, and he confessed to the crime during questioning. Acting on his disclosure, officers recovered the full stolen amount, Rs 13,58,500 in cash. They also seized the stolen Alto car bearing registration number RJ-29-CA-5229 that Bairwa had used to carry out the theft.
