The southwest monsoon is gradually picking up pace across Rajasthan. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), conditions remain highly favorable for the further advancement of the monsoon over the next 48 to 72 hours. Projections indicate that the monsoon is set to cover remaining parts of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Uttarakhand, and Uttar Pradesh. This atmospheric shift will significantly impact Rajasthan, where an alert has been issued for more than 31 districts, warning of thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds over the next four to five days.
Current Weather Systems
The Jaipur Meteorological Centre reports that a trough line is currently active at an altitude of 1.5 kilometers over Madhya Pradesh, stretching from the central part of Uttar Pradesh to west Vidarbha. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation persists between 3.1 and 5.8 kilometers above sea level near northern Gujarat. Another cyclonic circulation, influenced by a western disturbance, is also active over Haryana and its neighboring regions. These combined weather systems are strengthening rainfall activity across northwest and central India, with the monsoon expected to intensify significantly in Rajasthan within the next two to three days.
Forecast for Jaipur and Major Divisions
Jaipur is expected to see a distinct change in weather on Monday, with thick cloud cover expected throughout the day. The city may experience multiple rounds of light to moderate rainfall, with some areas potentially receiving heavy spells. Residents should be prepared for gusty winds reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning. These rains are anticipated to bring down maximum temperatures, providing much-needed relief from heat and humidity. Authorities have advised citizens to avoid standing in open areas during periods of severe weather.
Significant rainfall is expected across six divisions over the next four to five days, including Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Ajmer, and Kota. While monsoon activity is projected to be more vigorous in eastern Rajasthan, western districts are also expected to record rainfall, although some areas in the west may continue to experience lingering heat and humidity.
Alert for 31 Districts
The weather department has issued a specific warning for June 29 (Monday), covering 26 districts in eastern Rajasthan and five in western Rajasthan. The eastern districts under alert include Ajmer, Banswara, Alwar, Baran, Beawar, Bharatpur, Bhilwara, Bundi, Chittorgarh, Dungarpur, Pratapgarh, Salumbar, Rajsamand, Sirohi, Tonk, Dausa, Deeg, Dholpur, Jaipur, Jhalawar, Jhunjhunu, Karauli, Khairthal-Tijara, Kota, Kotputli-Behror, Sawai Madhopur, Sikar, and Udaipur, where wind speeds of 40 to 50 km/h are expected alongside lightning risks.
Meanwhile, the five districts in western Rajasthan—Churu, Pali, Sri Ganganagar, Didwana-Kuchaman, and Hanumangarh—are expected to face thunderstorms and winds blowing at 30 to 40 km/h. Officials have advised the public to stay away from trees, electricity poles, and open fields during inclement weather. Furthermore, residents in low-lying areas should be cautious of potential waterlogging. This strengthening monsoon is expected to accelerate agricultural activities, particularly the sowing of Kharif crops, providing a boost to the farming community.
